The new European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) with mandatory application from 25 May 2018, sets out a new legal framework for the governance of personal data security for European Union organizations (European Commission, 2018). This regulation standardizes the rules in the EU, so that there is a stricter control of organizations that process personal data with strict fines to those who do not comply.
